“That’s just part of getting older.”
Have you heard that one before? Maybe from your doctor, your trainer - or maybe you’ve even said it yourself.
Allow me to offer a ground-breaking idea:
Age is not your problem.
“But my X-ray says I have osteoarthritis…”
Cool. So does almost everyone else over 35.
Here’s what we see at AXIOS Sports Medicine every week:
Someone walks in with diagnosed osteoarthritis - hip, shoulder, spine, knee, back, wherever.
And after a session, they’re immediately moving better, sleeping better, and, in most cases, pain-free shortly after.
So what’s the real culprit?
Your fascia.
Fascia is the web of connective tissue that lives everywhere in your body, and it’s your primary pain-sensing tissue.
Which means that most of the pain we label as “musculoskeletal” isn’t coming from joints or bones, it’s coming from dysfunctional fascia.
So, if you’ve been diagnosed with arthritis and you’re feeling pain in that area… it’s probably not arthritis pain.
It’s fascial pain.
Why am I so confident?
Because when you’ve seen dozens of patients with osteoarthritis, and after treating their fascia, the pain goes away - you start to question things.
The imaging didn’t change.
They still have OA.
But they don’t have pain.
So… maybe the arthritis wasn’t causing the pain in the first place.
Call me crazy, but that makes sense to me.
Let Me Reiterate -
Age isn’t the enemy. Misdiagnosis is.
When you’re told your pain is “just aging,” here’s what happens:
Your power gets taken away.
Not because your body is broken - but because someone misunderstood the actual source of your pain.
That misunderstanding sends people down a path of fear, stress, and hopelessness.
You start thinking surgery is inevitable.
You avoid activity.
You question your strength.
You wonder if your best days are behind you.
All based on a diagnosis that might not even explain your symptoms.
Meanwhile, the real issue — fascial dysfunction, goes completely unaddressed.
Stress goes up. Options go down.
And people suffer, unnecessarily.
Here’s the truth:
If your joint can move, there’s massive potential for improvement.
You’re not fragile. You’re not falling apart.
You’ve just been poorly evaluated by a system that wasn’t trained to find the real cause.
And to be clear - I’m not blaming other providers.
You don’t know what you don’t know.
I’m sure I’m missing big pieces of other puzzles - that’s why I’m always challenging my own perspective on diagnosis, treatment, functionality, and life in general.
You’re not falling apart.
You’re just experiencing fascial dysfunction.
If it moves, it can improve.
Pain isn’t proof of aging. It’s proof that something isn’t functioning the way it should.
That stiffness in your hip during yoga?
That tightness in your knee after a run?
That shoulder you “just live with” at the gym?
Probably not degeneration.
Probably not your age.
Probably your fascia - and it very likely can be fixed.
